In 1974, outlandish proto-rapper Rudy Ray Moore, already a hero in the hood for his X-rated comedy albums, cobbled together $100,000 to make the definitive so-bad-it's-great movie of its time: the blaxploitation classic Dolemite. Unhindered by foggy sound quality, this first-time CD issue of the soundtrack is both predictably fun and surprisingly fine. The raw, high-octane tunes (full of mind-splattering Clavinet and downright nasty drumming) are sweetened by two obscure vocalists: Ben Taylor, who belts out the theme song, and Mary Love, who delivers the supersexy "Power of Your Love."
