Imitation Electric Piano biography

Biography by Heather Phares Imitation Electric Piano is the brainchild of Stereolab bassist/multi-instrumentalist Simon Johns, formed as an outlet for his unique spin on post-rock. Johns collaborated with like-minded musicians, including drummer Ashley Marlowe, bassist Andrew Blake, keyboardist Chris Blake, guitarist Paul Morgan, and trumpet player Nick Wilson, on 2001's self-titled debut EP and 2003's full-length Trinity Neon, arriving at a sound that mixed '60s fusion and the droning lounge-pop of Johns' other band. Johns returned with new vocalist Mary Hampton on Imitation Electric Piano's second, more song-oriented album, Blow It Up, Burn It Down, Kick It 'Til It Bleeds, which arrived in fall 2006.
